Youth Program

Mission

We imagine a better future for our kids. We know you do too. Together we want what is best for kids and teens. We want them to have the freedom and fearlessness to engage wholeheartedly with the world throughout their entire lives.

Today’s youth are caught between increasingly sedentary lifestyles and earlier and intensive single-sport specialization. This has reduced physical activity—decreasing free play, undermining motor skills development, heightening injury risk, and exacerbating childhood obesity.

Focus

This programs focus is on developmentally appropriate movement training for enduring fitness and physical competence rather than chasing after and celebrating short-term gains. This means that the kids overall fitness will reach the standard of any sport or curriculum that they enroll in later. The program will include a wide range of bodyweight movements as well as weighted exercises with dumbbells, barbells, and medicine balls. Our goal is for them to carry over their fitness into all aspects of play, sport, and even learning in the class rooms.

A typical Class looks like this:

1) Team-based warmup

2) skill development (for instance, a squat, a handstand, or a pull up, or a rope climb, or a kettlebell swing)

3) An individual challenge (for example, an obstacle course or series of exercises against the clock.)

4) cooldown and review.
